§ 10-42. Cemetery board.

  • (a)

    The cemetery board shall perform the following tasks:

    (1)

    The cemetery board shall make recommendations to the township board for long range planning of the cemetery.

    (2)

    The cemetery board shall make recommendations to the township board for rules by resolution according to this chapter or for changes to this chapter.

    (3)

    The cemetery board shall consider prompt appeals by persons of decisions by the superintendent of cemeteries. The decisions by the cemetery board shall be final. The cemetery board shall grant the appeal, with or without conditions; deny the appeal; or modify the appeal, with or without conditions. The township clerk shall maintain records of decisions by the cemetery board to guide future decisions. The cemetery board shall attempt to maintain consistency of decisions, absent a specific finding of a reason to justify a variation from prior cemetery board decisions.

    (4)

    The cemetery board may consider and make recommendations to the township board concerning any other matters pertaining to the cemetery.

    (b)

    Cemetery board members shall be appointed to terms of fours years, except that one initial appointment shall last two years. Cemetery board members shall not serve for more than eight consecutive years without at least one year off. Meetings of the cemetery board shall be subject to the open meetings act, Public Act No. 267 of 1976 (MCL 15.261 et seq.).
