§ 10-33. Interment of cremated remains.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Cremated remains sent or delivered to the township shall be permanently interred within a period of four days after receipt. Cremated remains delivered by a local funeral home will be interred by prearrangement only. No cremated remains are to be delivered to the township between November 1 and April 1. If arrangements are not made for permanent interment within these time periods, the township shall not be liable or responsible for damage to or loss of cremated remains or the container holding the remains.

    (b)

The cremation section is the area of the cemetery reserved for cremated remains only. No monuments other than the designated monument established by the township are permitted. Each gravesite in the cremation section shall be 16 inches by 16 inches. Cremated remains shall be identified on the designated monument by name and dates of birth and death; the payment for placing that information on the common monument shall be made to the monument company. Husband and wife may be interred side by side only if they are interred at the same time. Names may be placed on the designated monument prior to interment, or even prior to death, so that persons such as husbands and wives may be listed together. Two flags in holders placed by the superintendent of cemeteries will honor all veterans in the cremation section; no other flags or flower urns will be permitted.

    (c)

Cremation vaults are not required, but are permitted.

    (d)

Outside of the cremation section, up to six cremains may be interred in a single gravesite, with or without cremation vaults. Up to five cremains may be interred in the same grave as a full-sized interment, but only without cremation vaults.
